March 18, 1918-Jan. 16, 2008
Former Detroit Lakes area resident Iva Broberg, 89, of Fargo, died Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo.
Iva Helen Demmer was born to Fred and Matilda (Smith) Demmer on March 18, 1918, in Dent, Minn. She was the fourth of 10 children, and was raised near Star Lake. Iva attended country school in a schoolhouse just across the road from her home, and later, in 1939, she graduated from North Central Bible College in Minneapolis.
Iva married Everill Broberg on Dec. 10, 1943, in Pelican Rapids. They raised five children on their dairy farm in Audubon. Following Everill's death in 1989, Iva moved to Breckenridge, Minn., and then to Fargo in 1998. She enjoyed wonderful care and friendship during the last year and a half, from the staff at Rosewood on Broadway.
Iva was a wife, mother, homemaker, Sunday school teacher, and an active member of the Assembly of God Church in Detroit Lakes. Her faith was an integral part of her life, and she looked forward to going home to be with her Savior. In her own words, "Jesus led me all the way!"
Iva is survived by five children: Allan (Mary) Broberg of Fargo, Elizabeth (Dean) Aamodt of Brooklyn Park, Minn., Harlan (Rebecca) Broberg of Rochester, Minn., Judy (Gordon) Newman of Marysville, Wash., and Eugene (MaryAnn) Broberg of Oklahoma City, Okla.; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; two brothers, Orville and Alvin (Marion) Demmer; and two sisters, Gladys Egli and Florence (Art) Robins.
Preceding Iva in death were her parents; husband Everill; and five brothers and sisters.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at First Assembly, Fargo, with interment to follow at Lake Eunice Evangelical Free Cemetery.
