Jackson man sentenced for drug possession
A Jackson, Minn., man was sentenced to five years' probation and 30 days in jail last week in Becker County District Court on two felony counts of drug possession.
Jason Richard Weets, 23, of 64 River St., Jackson, Minn., pled guilty to two felony counts of drug possession on Dec. 18; three additional counts were dismissed.
The charges stemmed from a July 21, 2007 incident at the 10,000 Lakes Festival south of Detroit Lakes; Weets was approached by festival security personnel, who suspected him of selling drugs. He allegedly threw a satchel to the ground that contained drug paraphernalia and attempted to flee. A total of $1,978 in cash was found on his person, as was a keyless car remote. Using the remote, security personnel found and searched his car, which allegedly contained $23,000 in cash and six types of prescription narcotics, as well as marijuana and other items.
At his sentencing on Wednesday, Jan. 28, Weets was sentenced to 30 days in jail on each charge, to be served concurrently, and was given credit for time already served in jail. He was also ordered to pay $1,087 in court fines and fees.
