Jail, fine for selling ecstasy
An Edina man has been sentenced for selling the controlled substance "ecstasy" to an undercover officer at the 10,000 Lakes Festival on July 24.
Patrick John Richard Roche, 20, of 4176 West 44th St., Edina, appeared in Becker County District Court Wednesday.
He was charged with felony fourth-degree controlled substance crime, sale, for selling a tab of ecstasy to an officer with the West Central Drug Task Force.
Roche was walking towards a crowd yelling "rolls! rolls!" and the officer approached him and bought a "roll," or a tab of ecstasy.
Ecstasy is a semisynthetic member of the amphetamine class of psychoactive drugs.
The officer bought one tablet for $15, then arrested Roche, who had another 14 tablets on his person when searched, along with $856 cash, according to court records.
On Wednesday, District Judge Joe Evans stayed imposition of sentence for 15 years and ordered him to be on supervised probation for 15 years.
He ordered him to serve 30 days in jail and another 30 days on electronic home monitoring, at his own expense. He was fined $1,000 plus court fees.
