'Jailbirds' raise $5,000 for March of Dimes
Nearly 30 local business leaders and citizens voluntarily spent time behind bars helping raise over $5,000 during the March of Dimes Jail & Bail event.
The money will help fund local programs that help Detroit Lakes area moms have full-term pregnancies and healthy babies.
On Oct. 9, local volunteers were "arrested" and turned themselves in to a temporary jail set up at the Speak Easy. After standing before a judge, getting fingerprinted and having mug shots taken, the jailbirds had one hour to call friends, family and co-workers to raise bail in the form of donations to the March of Dimes.
March of Dimes thanks the Speak Easy and the many volunteers who made Jail & Bail a great success.
The March of Dimes is the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health. With chapters nationwide and its premier event, March for Babies, the March of Dimes works to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
