James D. Dahl, 81, of Detroit Lakes, formerly of Michigan, N.D., died Thursday, April 29, 2010 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes after a courageous battle with cancer.
James Dahl was born to Ole and Evelyn Johnston Dahl on December 14, 1928 in Edmore, N.D. He grew up and attended school in Michigan, N.D., graduating from Michigan High School in 1948. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1948-1950. He was stationed at the Spokane Air Force Base, where he served as a Military Policeman. Following his discharge he returned to Michigan, where he farmed until 1983.
In 1983 James moved to Detroit Lakes, where he worked on the grounds crew at the Detroit Country Club for 26 years. James loved to hunt and spend time with his family.
Surviving James are three sisters, Jean (Dennis) Hopman of Detroit Lakes, Jacqueline Hopman of Detroit Lakes and Shirley (Albert) Binfet, of Elgin, N.D.; one brother, Dennis (Millie) Dahl of Thief River Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother-in-law, Pat Hopman.
Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Monday, May 3, at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, with visitation for one hour prior to services.
Interment will take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, in the Michigan Cemetery, Michigan, N.D.
