James A. Kjos, 48, of Ulen, died Friday, May 29, 2009 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo.
Jim was born the son of Waldo and Darlene (Erickson) Kjos on March 28, 1961 in Moorhead. He was raised in Htterdal and attended Ulen-Hitterdal school. He was baptized, confirmed and remained a lifetime member of Salem Lutheran Church in Hitterdal.
In 1979, Jim entered the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. After his discharge he returned to the Hitterdal community, where he was employed by area farmers and American Crystal and Waste Management. On Dec. 31, 2004 he married LouAnn Schachtschneider in Ulen, which they continued to make their home. Jim was a truck driver for Aggregate Industries as a truck driver for the past 5 years.
Jim was a very active member of the Ulen VFW, where he was past commander. He had a passion for the outdoors and whenever possible, this was where you would find him. He loved deer hunting, fishing (in South Dakota), four-wheeling and snowmobiling. Jim was well known for making deer sausage and then giving it to all of his friends. He took pride in his yard and always kept it well groomed and neatly decorated. He also treasured the time he spent with Skylar and loved his hobby farming.
Surviving Jim are his wife, LouAnn Kjos of Ulen; one daughter, Heather (Mike) Bjorgan of Hitterdal; one son, Taylor Selseth of Moorhead; his mother, Darlene Kjos of Hitterdal; four sisters, Shirley (Ron) Gwin of Mapleton, N.D., Kristi (Vernon) Prestegord of Twin Valley, Luann (Ole) Larson of Lake Park and Lynnette (Ross) Wagner of Brainerd; three brothers, Todd (Arlene) Kjos of Hitterdal, Wayne (Melanie) Kjos of Ulen, and Mike (Jenny) Kjos of Hawley; as well as two grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his father and his grandparents.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 1 at Salem Lutheran Church, Hitterdal, followed with a 7 p.m. prayer service.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 2 at Salem Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Sandra Hollands officiating.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Larson, Brett Larson, Austin Stanfill, Beau Kjos, Nick Kjos, Bryan Gwin, J.R. Prestegord, Casey Wagner, Brandon Gwin and Josh Kjos. Full military rites will be provided by the Hitterdal American Legion and Ulen VFW Post 5115. Burial will be in the East Salem Lutheran Cemetery, Hitterdal.
