James L. Kvilvang, 73, of Detroit Lakes passed away Friday, May 20, 2011 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.
James Kvilvang was born to Ida and Edwin Kvilvang on March 14, 1938 in Lake Park. Jim was one of seven children who grew up working the family farm. He graduated from Lake Park High School in 1956 and ran the farm for five years after graduation. He married Shirley LeTourneau on July 22, 1963.
Surviving Jim are his wife, Shirley of Detroit Lakes; two sons, Michael Kvilvang of Detroit Lakes, and Myles (Cheryl) Kvilvang of Layton, Utah; five grandchildren, Melissa (Mark) Longoria of Ada, Minn., Kayla (Justin) Mattinson, Ryan Kvilvang, Ashley Kvilvang and Brayden Kvilvang; three great grandchildren, Kail Longoria, Kaiden Mattinson and Alaze Longoria; and his siblings, brother Donald (Sharon) Kvilvang of Hibbing, Minn.; sisters, Marlene (Donald) Solwold of Esko, Minn., Patricia (William) Hodgson of Renton, Wash., Kathleen Blacknik (James Clark) of Detroit Lakes and Pamela (Herman) Washington of Seattle, Wash.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Edwin and Ida Kvilvang; brother, Sidney Kvilvang; and daughter, Michelle Kvilvang.
Visitation will be from 12 to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 26, followed by a 1 p.m. memorial service, at First Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes.
