Former Frazee resident James E. Stanton, 63, of Vergas, died Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at the Clearwater County Hospital in Bagley, Minn.
James Elmer Stanton was born to Walter and Rachael (Gansbery) Stanton on Dec. 13, 1946 in Detroit Lakes. He was a 1964 graduate of Frazee High School and served with the U.S. Air Force, 1965-69. Following his discharge, Jim returned to Frazee, where he did construction work and also worked as a bartender. He retired in 1989 due to ill health.
Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and canning. He was a past member of the Becker County Disabled American Veterans and John Bridges American Legion Post 15.
Surviving Jim are his daughter, Rachael Stanton of Moorhead; son, James W. Stanton of Pelican Rapids; two grandchildren; three sisters, Judi (Rod) Lydell of Osage (his twin), Doris (Gene) Schermerhorn of Callaway and Brenda (Ron) Severson of Bemidji; and a brother, Don (Judy) Stanton of Grand Junction, Colo.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Larry.
There will be a time of gathering from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 5 at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, and the visitation will continue for one hour prior to services on Monday.
