JCPenney coupon book pays off for Detroit Lakes Boys and Girls clubs
It's a win-win situation. Spend $5 to get a "20 percent off" coupon at JCPenney, and that $5 goes straight back to the Boys and Girls Club of Detroit Lakes.
"The local JCPenney needs kudos for taking initiative to get involved in the national program for us," Club Executive Director Pat Petermann said.
The way it works is between Sept. 14-28 purchase a $5 coupon that is worth 20 percent off almost all store, online and catalog purchases made on Sunday, Sept. 28
The money collected in the JCPenney Afterschool Fund will be donated back to the local Boys and Girls Club for afterschool programs.
"This is exciting for us," Petermann said.
On Sept. 28 from noon to 4 p.m., staff, kids and board members from the Detroit Lakes Boys and Girls Club will have a booth up at JCPenney to show what the club is doing and to personally thank shoppers for contributing to the club.
"That's the day to say thanks," he said.
JCPenney also just finished up another fund-raising effort for the club called Round Up. The Detroit Lakes store reported that 47 percent of the people asked to round up their purchase in August with the excess amount going to the Club complied. The store earned about $1,000 for the Club through the program.
Those funds are helping the ever-growing club, which in the first couple days of school is seeing record numbers of about 120 kids a day.
"Every penny we get helps," he added.
