Dec. 19, 1920-June 5, 2009

M. Jean Askelson, 68, of Twin Valley, died Friday, June 5, 2009, in Bridges Medical Services, Ada, Minn.

Marilyn Jean Boit, known as Jean, was born the daughter of Louis and Edna (Matson) Boit on Dec. 19, 1920 in Dickenson, N.D. She was raised and attended school in the Georgetown, Minn., community. As a young woman she lived in Fargo, and was employed at American Linen Company.

On Nov. 1, 1961, Jean married Ted Askelson at Ulen. They made their home on a farm near Borup, Minn., for nearly 40 years. While living at Borup, Jean worked for area farmers during harvest and at both the Creamery Restaurant in Ada and Agsco in the fall for several years. After their retirement in the late 1990s, they moved to Twin Valley, where they continued to live until the time of Jean's death.

Jean was a member of the Winchester Lutheran Church in Borup. She liked to garden and spent as much time as she could outside. She loved being with her grandchildren and spending time with them. Another activity Jean enjoyed was going for rides in the family's restored 1956 Ford, the car Jean and Ted had when they were married.

Surviving Jean are her husband, Ted Askelson of Twin Valley; her daughter, Karla Pearson of Ada; a son, Kerry (Denise) Askelson of Twin Valley; one sister, Rosie Goble of Georgetown; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Preceding Jean in death were her parents; one infant son; one grandson; and four brothers.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, followed with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Twin Valley, continuing for one hour before services at the church on Thursday.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, June 11, at Winchester Lutheran Church in Borup, with the Rev. Karla Mickelson officiating.

Jean's grandchildren and great grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers. Interment will take place at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Twin Valley.
