Jeffrey J. Kohler, 41, of Audubon, died on Sunday, November 22, 2009 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.
Jeff was born the son of John and Sharon (Brick) Kohler on February 19, 1968 in Martinez, Calif. As a young child, he moved to Audubon with his family. Jeff was raised and educated in Audubon, graduating from high school in 1986. He worked various jobs in the area throughout his life.
Jeff was diagnosed with ALS on Nov. 21, 2002. He made the best of each day, despite all of the challenges he faced. Jeff would say, "God gave me another day and I thanked him for that. I tried to make the most of each and every day."
Jeff enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing and hunting. He also had a great appreciation for the outdoors. He was a simple man and lived a simple life to the fullest.
The family of Jeff would like to thank Art Kohler III for being the brother Jeff never had, and to the staff at Emmanuel Nursing Home for making Jeff's stay there feel like a home and for becoming his second family.
Surviving Jeff are his father, John Kohler of Audubon; sister, Annette (Bill) Herdzina of Ramsey, Minn.; nieces, Jackie (Justin) Peterson and Amber Herdzina; nephew, Billy Herdzina; great niece, Alexa Peterson; grandmother, Marie Kohler of Mokelumne Hill, Calif.; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
Preceding Jeff in death were his grandparents; mother, Sharon; and his beloved dogs, Bart and Maggie.
A memorial service is set for 11 a.m. Saturday, November 28, at First Lutheran Church, Audubon, with interment in First Lutheran Church, Audubon. There will be visitation for one hour prior to the start of services at the church.
