Jerry L. Walden, 61, of Detroit Lakes, died Monday, October 14, 2013 at his residence, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20 in the Eagles Club Aerie 2342, Detroit Lakes, with visitation for one hour prior to services.
Jerry Lynn Walden was born to John E. and Jeannine H. (Martin) Walden on February 26, 1952 in Fargo. He was raised and educated in Dilworth, graduating from Dilworth Public High School in 1970.
During his high school years, Jerry excelled in wrestling and was proud to be the captain of the team during his senior season.
After high school, he worked various jobs before moving to Las Vegas. While in Las Vegas, Jerry worked as a bartender, roofer, security guard and bookie for several years. He moved to Detroit Lakes to manage the Super Lube and later, Conoco Station.
Jerry became involved with the Eagles Club in Detroit Lakes. He made countless friends over the years working as a bartender, and was instrumental in the Eagles sock fundraiser. He twice served as the Eagles Club president, in 2011 and 2012, a role in which he took great pride.
Jerry loved playing poker, shooting pool and shopping. He enjoyed cooking, especially steak and shrimp. During the summer Jerry enjoyed spending time with friends around a bonfire and in the fall loved his NFL Sundays.
Surviving Jerry are his son: Jerry Walden Jr. of Detroit Lakes; special friend Amber Stallman; three brothers, Bud Walden of Fargo, John Walden of Las Vegas, Nev., and Randy Walden of Chino Hills, Calif.; as well as six nieces and nephews.
His parents preceded him in death.
