Jo Dee Messina at Shooting Star Friday
Country music superstar Jo Dee Messina will perform at 8 p.m. this Friday, Sept. 28, in the Shooting Star Casino, Hotel and Event Center, located at 777 Casino Road in Mahnomen.

Messina was born in Holliston, Mass.,, where she was first attracted to country music from artists such as Alabama, Hank Jr., Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, and Reba McEntire.
Growing up, she appeared in local plays and musicals, and formed a band with her siblings.
At 19 years old, Messina moved to Nashville in the hope of being discovered. In Nashville, she entered various talent contests and became a part of the "Live at Libby's" radio show.
Messina was signed and then dropped by a major label, but that did not discourage her from pursuing her career in music.
Soon after, she met a Curb Records executive who offered her a record deal.
Messina's producer introduced her to another struggling newcomer named Tim McGraw, who took part in producing her first album.
Messina gained attention with singles like "Heads Carolina, Tails California" and "You're Not In Kansas Anymore." Her hits "Bye Bye," "I'm Alright," and "Stand Beside Me" made her a star.
To date, Messina has sold over five million albums, had nine #1 singles, has earned two Grammy nominations, has won ACM's Top New Female Vocalist award, as well as the CMA's Horizon award.
Next up at the Shooting Star is the second annual Paranormal Convention, Friday, Oct. 12; and country music headliners Big & Rich on Friday, Oct. 26. For more information, call 800-313-7469 or visit www.starcasino.com.
