JoAnn C. Brown, 80, of Detroit Lakes, died Sun-day, August 18, 2013 at Essentia Health-Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes.
JoAnn Brown was born to Gunnard and Carla (Hoeglund) Rasmussen on March 1, 1933 in Ada. She grew up and attended school in the Ada and Twin Valley area. The family later moved to De-troit Lakes, where JoAnn graduated from High School in 1951.
On December 28, 1952 she was united in mar-riage to Gene E. Brown in Detroit Lakes. They made their home in West Fargo for a short time before moving to Detroit Lakes in 1954.
JoAnn was involved with her husband in his trucking business. She helped with the books and also enjoyed traveling with him from time to time. She was also very active at First Lutheran Church at one time, teaching Sunday School and serving on the Altar Guild. She was involved with her children in Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. She loved animals, flower gardening, quilting, and sewing.
JoAnn is survived by one son, Michael (Barbara) Brown, of Detroit Lakes; two daughters, Connie (William) Stall-man of Detroit Lakes and Karen (Craig) Andrews of Alexandria; five grand-children, Jennifer (David) Johnson, Ryan Stallman, Shannon Brown, Alyssa (Aaron) Stern and Bryan Andrews; and three great granddaughters, Jordyn Johnson, Avery Johnson, and Kennedy Stern.
Preceding JoAnn in death were her husband, Gene (2005); one son, Daniel; and her parents.
Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23 in West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes. Friends may call one hour prior to services on Friday.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Humane Society.
