Jogger apparently killed after falling off 200-foot river bluff near Twin Cities

RED WING, Minn. - A jogger here died Wednesday night after apparently falling off 200-foot Mississippi River bluff.

Police and fire departments in this city about an hour southeast of Minneapolis responded at 8:50 p.m. to a call for medical assistance on the bluff's north side.

Witnesses were performing CPR when the first officer arrived, Police Chief Roger Pohlman said.

Witnesses said the man had asked for directions off the bluff, Pohlman said. When they headed down the bluff 20 minutes later, they found him unresponsive and lying on the path at the bottom of the 200-foot rock wall.

The victim, whose name is being withheld pending the notification of family, was pronounced dead and transported to Mayo Health System in Red Wing.
