John F. Grise, 72, of Waubun, died Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at Sanford Health in Fargo.
A mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14 in St. Ann's Catholic Church, Waubun, with Father John Cox, O.M.I., officiating. Interment will be in St. Ann's Cemetery with Military Rites provided by the Lake Region Veterans Honor Guard.
Friends may call at the church from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, with a 7 p.m. prayer service. The visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
John Ford Grise was born to Ford and Mamie (Anderson) Grise on August 3, 1941 in White Earth. He spent his early years in California and then split his time between Hibbing and Waubun, where he attended Waubun High School. He served as a combat engineer with the U.S. Army, 1963-65.
Following his discharge, he moved to Washington, where he worked for Boeing Aircraft. He later returned to Waubun.
John was united in marriage to Kathleen Kemper, October 2, 1971 in Detroit Lakes. They made their home in Waubun, where he worked for Mahnomen Concrete Products, Arne and Schwin and finally for Eichoff Construction of Crookston, until his military disability forced his retirement in 1976.
John enjoyed hunting, fishing, card playing and dancing. He was also a wonderful story teller.
Survivors include his wife Kathleen, of Waubun; two daughters, Athlene (Matthew) Kunz of White Bear Lake and Marla (Dominic) Kunz of Fergus Falls; and 10 grandchildren, Hannah, Riley, Samantha, Natalie, Zachary, Emily, Julia, Lydia, Samantha and Ian.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley LaDue.
