John A. Lampl, 57, Nevis, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2008, in his home.

John was born on May 29, 1950, to John and Harriet (Kouba) Lampl in Regent, N.D. As a small boy, he moved with his family to the Nevis area. He graduated from the Nevis High School with the Class of 1970. John went on to attend Vocational-Technical College in Fargo. As a young man, he ventured to sunny Florida and the Virgin Islands, where he worked a variety of jobs and made his home for a time. In 1977, John was united in marriage to Judy Merritt. This union was blessed with one daughter, Rande. In 1978, John began working for the City of Park Rapids as a water department technician in a career that spanned over 18 years, until failing health forced him into early retirement. On July 18, 1987, John married Donna J. McDougall of Detroit Lakes. This union was blessed with one son, Jerry. In 1990, John and Donna engaged in raising beef cattle and built up a fine cow/calf operation that involved calving out 120 mother cows each year and raising the crops necessary to feed their herd. John loved the outdoors, especially when it came to hunting the forests and fields of Northern Minnesota or fishing the pine laden lakes near his home. He attended the Assembly of God Church of Park Rapids. Above all, John devoted his life to his wife, children and grandchildren whom he loved with all his heart.
