John C. Michener, 81, of Hawley, died Saturday, December 31, 2011 in his rural Hawley home.
John Curtis Michener was born to Charles and Esther (Candee) Michener on December 22, 1930 in Iowa. He grew up in Preston, Minn. John attended Concordia College, Moorhead, where he met Janice Komrosky. They were married on February 3, 1950 in St. Paul, and resided in Fargo, Minot and rural Hawley for many years.
John was a livestock dealer, mainly cattle. He enjoyed driving and delivering the cattle, often times thru many states. His real love was horses, especially wheeling and dealing, racetrack horses and riding. His personality was one that all who met him would not forget him. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren, all of whom will miss him dearly.
Surviving him are his wife Janice, of Hawley; three sons, Jan (Diana) Michener, Detroit Lakes, John Michener, Willmar and Monte (Ravit) Michener, Estes Park, Colo.; daughter, Roxanne (Steve) Sahlberg, St. Simons Island, Ga.; one brother, Robert (Ann) Michener, Vancouver, Canada; 12 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Charles and Esther Michener; and son, Anthony Michener.
John Michener's body has been graciously bequeathed to the University of Minnesota, Anatomy Bequest Program.
