John B. Oellien, 90, of Osage, died Monday, January 27, 2014 at Golden Manor Assisted Living in Detroit Lakes.
A celebration of John's life will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30 in Calvary Lutheran Church, Park Rapids, with Reverend Sara Jensen officiating. There will be visitation for one hour prior to services.
Interment will be in Riverside Osage Cemetery, Osage.
John Bernard Oellien was born to John and Jennie (Benson) Oellien on November 8, 1923 near Canby. He was raised and educated near Canby and then joined his father on the family farm.
John was united in marriage to Mary A. Jackson November 29, 1944 at Garfield Lutheran Church in rural Madison, Minn. They farmed near Canby until 1967, when they moved to rural Osage.
John held a number of jobs including many years with the Noeske Lumber Company. In his later years, he mowed the grass at the wayside rest area for the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
John enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing reading and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife Mary, of Osage; a son, Carl (Mary) of Detroit Lakes; a daughter, Linda (Daniel) Hanson of Park Rapids; five grandchildren, Edward, Ken, Luke, Thomas and Ginger; five great grandchildren, Mayson, Tristan, Tiffany, Josh and Abby; and a great-great grandson: Anthony.
Preceding him in death were a granddaughter, Annie; five brothers, Ted, Orville, Martin, Clarence and Edward; and a sister, Genevieve.
