John Zima, 82, of Waubun, died Thursday, April 3, 2008 at Innovis Hospital in Fargo.
John was born to Joseph and Anna (Beran) Zima on Aug. 8, 1925 near White Earth. He attended country school in Maple Grove Township and served with the United States Navy from October 1944 to November of 1946.
John married Elaine Dalve on June 7, 1949 in White Earth. They farmed in White Earth Township near White Earth and, starting in 1955, John hauled livestock to the stockyards in Fargo, and grain for area farmers. He retired in 2007. John enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, farming, trucking, working in his shop and working with his Caterpillar tractor.
Surviving John are his wife, Elaine Zima of Waubun; children, Henry (Sherry) Zima, Michael (Joni) Zima, John Jr. (Patty) Zima and Juliana (Gary) Jasken, all of Waubun, as well as Roger (Lauri) Zima of Ogema; 20 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers; and two sisters.
A mass of Christian burial was held Monday, April 7 at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in White Earth, with the Rev. Mitch Byeck, OMI, officiating. Interment was in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Ogema, with Military Rites provided by Ogema Post 9880, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
