George Jones began his career signing for Starday Records in 1953. Since then, he has been signed to Mercury Records, United Artist Records, Musicor, and Epic Records.

In his early years, Jones co-wrote and recorded his first chart-hit, "Why Baby Why," followed by his hit single, "White Lightning," in 1959.

After pairing with producer Billy Sherrill in the 1970s, Jones churned out bluesy classics such as "Tender Years" and the song "He Stopped Loving Her Today," which is widely regarded as one of country's popular classics today.

Other recognizable hits include "What Am I Worth," "Just One More," "Don't Stop The Music," and "Achin', Breakin' Heart."

In 1992, George Jones was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame and was given "Living Legend" status. Fellow music legends, such as Frank Sinatra and Waylon Jennings, have sung his praises. In 1996, Jones composed an autobiography titled, "I Lived To Tell It All."

Some of Jones's awards include a 2003 Medal of Arts from President George W. Bush at a White House dinner, a 50th anniversary tribute concert in 2004, and the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

Recently, Jones has branded a line of breakfast meats including sausage, bacon, and microwavable "sausage and biscuits," as well as his own "White Lightning" water. Even after 50 years of touring, Jones continues to tour around the U.S.
