Josh Turner, a Hannah, South Carolina-native, has been songwriting and performing since he was a young child, establishing a gospel quartet through his church called, “Thankful Hearts,” where he sang bass.
After attending Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn., to pursue his career in music, Turner appeared on the Grand Ole Opry stage in 2001, where he received a standing ovation during his song, “Long Black Train.”
One month after his Grand Ole Opry debut, Turner signed to Music Corporation of America (MCA) Nashville Records.
He released his first album in 2003, also entitled, “Long Black Train,” which was certified platinum with more than one million copies sold.
In 2006, Turner’s second album, “Your Man,” was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) four weeks after its release, and went platinum six months later.
The album accounted for his first two number one hits, including, “Your Man,” and “Would You Go With Me.”
Six years after his first debut, Turner was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in October 2007 by Vince Gill and is the second youngest member after Carrie Underwood.
His 2010 album, “Haywire,” produced the hit, “Why Don’t We Just Dance,” which was named the most played song by MediaBase.
Turner’s fifth album, “Punching Bag,” was released in June 2012, and debuted at number one on the Billboard Country Albums chart.
The album is a knockout collection of bluegrass-influenced barnburners, lonesome laments, and the slow-and-steady love ballads on which Turner’s trademark baritone excels.
The debut single, “Time is Love,” was number one on the Best of 2012 Billboard Country Chart.
Earning numerous Country Music Association (CMA), Academy of Country Music (AMC) and Grammy nominations since his debut in 2003, Turner has forged a successful career.
He has sold more than five million albums and garnered multiple number one hits on the Billboard Country chart, making him one of the most identifiable male vocalists in country music.
