July 4th: Barbecue, fireworks, apple pie and freedom
Families and friends enjoying each other’s company, hotdogs and burgers sizzling on the grill, kids clutching melting ice cream cones, and lots of red, white and blue. Oh, the sights and smells of the Fourth of July!
But when the sun begins to sink over the picnics, grill-outs, and long days spent on the water, the heart of the celebration truly begins.
As it has for decades, the spectacular Detroit Lakes fireworks display will again light up the skies on Independence Day this summer. The show has been a long-time favorite for many locals and visitors to the area, and has established itself as a tradition for many celebrating on the lakes over the Fourth of July.
Gather some blankets and folding chairs and snuggle up on the sands of City Beach to take in the orchestrated display. Many restaurants along the shore of Detroit Lake also provide excellent seating and a chance to enjoy the show from an outdoor table.
Detroit Lakes’ fireworks display always gathers a crowd, so it’s best to come a little early to snag that prime strip of turf, though the show can be enjoyed from many other vantage points around the lake.
Some even like to take their boats out on the water to enjoy the fireworks from a safe distance!
The display blasts off at dusk, which usually falls around 10 or 10:30 p.m., and is sure to provide a spectacular finale to any Fourth of July celebration.
