Karen Kay Herdina, 51, of Detroit Lakes, died on Friday, May 21, 2010 at her residence in Detroit Lakes.
Karen was born the daughter of Jerome and Marcella (Hassing) Herdina on May 20, 1959 in Albert Lea, Minn. She graduated from Akeley High School. She moved to New Hampshire, where she lived from 1981 to 1983. She then moved to the Park Rapids area, where her son Justin was born. She attended Bemidji Vocational School to be a medical secretary, and she was most recently working as a health care aide.
Karen's hobbies included flower gardening and caring for her "best friend" Angelo, her pet cat. She dearly loved her grandchildren, Elijah and Izaiah, and spending time with them. She enjoyed spending time taking care of her place and caregiving for all.
Surviving Karen are her son, Justin (Krystal) Herdina of Detroit Lakes; her sister, Jeanette (Raymond) Goehring of Akeley; her brother, Wayne Herdina of Akeley; her father, Jerome Herdina of Akeley; two grandchildren, Elijah and Izaiah; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her mother, Marcella; and one sister, Lynette Herdina.
Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Thursday, May 27 at Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church in Nevis, with the Rev. Fr. Duane Pribulla officiating. Ardis Johnson will be the organist; Christie Semmler will sing "On Eagles' Wings." There will be visitation for one hour prior to services at the church Thursday.
Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Akeley City Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the Cease Family Funeral Home of Park Rapids.
