Keep your speed down, seat belt on and karma won't kick you
So here we go again. Life is hard sometimes, but the best part of being alive is living a challenge, I mean, what fun would life be if it's always easy?
The down side to challenges is sometimes there are consequences that come with them, and sometimes they're worse than they should be.
I was riding out to Walmart a few days ago with a couple buddies. We were actually more or less just driving around, and taking the long way out there.
We turned the corner and he accelerated a little quickly and he was changing radio stations. He looked up and saw a police officer waiting at the end of the road, obviously setting a speed trap. He looked at the speedometer and it was somewhere around 50 mph. The speed limit was 30 mph.
The cop started pulling out as we approached the end of the road, and before I even noticed there were cherries flashing behind us.
I didn't even really notice what was happening until the officer was walking past the back window (which was where I was sitting).
I took my seatbelt off when my friend pulled over. The officer stopped instantly at my window, and told me to roll it down, so I did I was told. I was a little shook up because I didn't even notice him until he was right next to me.
He said "You don't have your seatbelt on" and the response that leaked out of my mouth was "I know." He decided right then and there I was going to get a ticket, without even giving me a chance to say anything.
He then turned to my buddy who was driving the car, and asked him if he knew how fast he was going, and he responded honestly. The officer told him he was just going to give him a warning, but my buddy couldn't find his updated insurance card, so the officer changed his mind.
I took the ticket without really complaining or anything. I mean I felt like karma was just not on my side. I've been in plenty of cars that have been pulled over (I'm a teenager who drives around with other teenagers, it happens), but I've never gotten a ticket for not having my seatbelt on, especially when I was in the backseat.
Now I've got a $115 ticket I get to pay because I was too lazy to keep my seatbelt on, ironically one of the few times I was actually wearing my seatbelt.
Anyway, the moral of the story is, wear your seatbelt, and save your money. Also, karma is hard sometimes, but it's also best to take it as a learning experience, instead of being sour about it.
