June 9, 1950-Jan. 3, 2013
Keith Allan Olson, 62, son of the late Ernest and Elsie (Reese) Olson, passed away suddenly from a stroke on Thursday, January 3, 2013 in Falls Church, Va.
Keith was born in Detroit Lakes on June 9, 1950, was selected for the Outward Bound program, and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School as salutatorian in 1968.
After graduating in 1972 from Michigan State University in East Lansing, with degrees in computer science and electrical engineering, Keith worked in Korea for two years as part of a program with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, installing computer systems for South Korean businesses.
Keith accepted a position with Booz Allen Hamilton, where he worked as a computer specialist before joining SAIC, a consulting firm for government agencies, as a senior systems analyst, a job he held from December 1986 until his death.
Although Keith never married, he had an active life, with training to the level of black belt in tai kwon do, being a swordsman (epee), enjoying rock climbing, playing handball and roller blading. He was an avid reader and was well versed in a myriad of subjects.
Keith was an organ donor and three recipients received transplants of his kidneys and liver.
Surviving Keith are two sisters and two brothers: June Knopp of Grand Forks N.D., Sharon (Ken) Davidson of Avon Lake, Ohio, Loren (Lynn) Olson of Oregon City, Ore., and Harley Olson of Detroit Lakes; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding Keith in death were two brothers, Duane Olson (2011) and Paul Olson (1980); his parents, Ernest C. and Elsie (Reese) Olson; as well as his grandparents, Fred and Amelia (Peters) Reese, and G. Albert and Anna (Hanson) Olson.
A celebration of life ceremony will take place this summer in Detroit Lakes. His ashes will be buried at Lakeview Cemetery in Lakeview Township immediately following the ceremony.
