Kids are invited to come enjoy a "Day Out" at the Detroit Lakes Community & Cultural Center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 29 and Tuesday, Dec. 30. When school's not in session, the DLCCC provides a safe place for kids to have some fun! The Fargo Entertainment Company premiers the "80s Class Reunion" dinner show on New Year's Eve, Dec. 31, at the ClubHouse Hotel in Detroit Lakes. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person and seating is limited. Call 847-2121 to purchase tickets.

The Frazee Event Center is hosting a "Sober New Year's Party" on Dec. 31. Dinner will be provided by the Perham Alamo Society at 6:30 p.m. A dance will run from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $7 for those aged 12 and under. A Wadena band, "Fake It 'Til You Make It," will be providing live music.

The calligraphy designs of Detroit Lakes artist Douglas J. Fliss are on display through Jan. 31 at the Detroit Lakes Public Library. A former partner in the Fargo-based liturgical art studio StudioWorks LLC, which designed and produced stained glass windows and mosaics for churches, Fliss is a graduate of the commercial art program at Minnesota State Community & Technical College and the Concordia College studio arts program. He worked closely with renowned regional artist David Hetland for over 30 years.

The 49th annual Red River Valley Coin and Stamp Show is Jan. 24-25 in Doublewood Inn, Fargo. It is the largest coin and stamp show in the Upper Midwest. Featuring over 50 tables and 30 dealers from six states.

A new exhibit about Butler Township, created specifically for Butler's recent 125th anniversary celebration, is now on display at the History Museum of East Otter Tail County in Perham. Photographs and stories about the township will be on display through the end of the year. A new exhibit at the ITOW Veterans Museum in Perham, "Portraits of Home II: Veterans in Search of Shelter in Greater Minnesota," will be on display through Jan. 3. Sponsored by the Greater Minnesota Housing Fund, the exhibit addresses an important question for our times, "What does society owe those who have committed their lives to serving their country?" The photographers in this exhibition -- Carlos Gonzalez, Brian Lesteberg, Stormi Greener, Steve Streble, Cathy ten Broeke, and Chante Wolf -- have used their cameras to document images of homelessness and sub-standard housing, issues that face some veterans even today. The ITOW Veterans Museum is located at 805 West Main, Perham, and is open Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sunday, 1-4 p.m. Admission is $4 for adults and $2 for students. Veterans are admitted free.
