Kent R. Nelson, 21, of Detroit Lakes died Monday, August 23, 2010 in Bozeman, Mont.
Kent Nelson was born to David and Deanna (David) Nelson on April 17, 1989 in St. Louis Park, Minn. He grew up and attended school in Detroit Lakes, graduating from Detroit Lakes High School in 2008. He was most recently a student at Montana State University, where he served in the Reserve Officer Training Corps, was treasurer of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, and was also an honor student.
While at Detroit Lakes High School he was a member of the swim team. Kent was an artist. He also enjoyed snowboarding and playing bass guitar. He had a warm, loving open heart, and was always there for others. His smile would light up a room and people were naturally drawn to him.
Surviving Kent are his parents; one brother, Derek Nelson of Detroit Lakes; one sister, Savannah Nelson of Detroit Lakes; maternal grandparents, Ron and Barbara David of Walker, Minn.; one niece, Alice Nelson; several aunts and uncles; and godparents, Barry and Pearl Cervenka of Bemidji.
Preceding him in death were his paternal grandparents, Edwin and Marie Nelson.
Funeral services are set for 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27 at West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, with a 7 p.m. prayer service.
