Key Club sponsors Halloween Fun House for kids
It will be fun and safe, but certainly not scary.
The Detroit Lakes High School Key Club is hosting a Halloween Fun House for kids pre-kindergarten to fifth grade on Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Detroit Lakes High School Multi-Purpose Gymnasium. The event is being sponsored by the Detroit lakes Kiwanis.
Although Patty Mollberg started the activity a few years ago at Rossman School, the Key Club decided to take over the reins this year.
"This is the first year the Key Club started it and we wanted to do an activity for every month and this is October," Whitney Wellman said.
The evening will include coloring, music, "Charlie Brown Halloween" movie, guessing candies, reaching in a bucket and guessing what's inside and many more. Prizes include candy, pencils and other toys.
"It's not scary, just fun," Wellman said.
'We're hoping it works," Katie Mollberg said. "It's a better, safe alternative on Halloween."
Kids are encouraged to dress up and "go all out on costumes," Wellman said, because there will be a prize for best costume. "It'll be fun."
Cost is $2 per child and parents get in for free.
"We're hoping to start it up and the Key Club can do it again next year," Kaytie Noah said.
