Kops and clowns and Vikings, oh my! Shriners parade in DL Saturday afternoon
The Shriners are putting on a parade in Detroit Lakes Saturday afternoon, and everyone is invited to come join the fun.
The parade starts at 2 p.m. at the community center and will travel down Washington Avenue to City Park.
There will be the clown unit from Jamestown, the Keystone Kops from Mayville, the Vikings from Valley City, an Escort Motor Patrol of small red Mazda Miatas, as well as motorcycles driven by the director's staff and, of course, the color guard from Detroit Lakes.
The parade is part of the El Zagel Shrine Spring Ceremonial for potential new Shriners, according to Matt Thompson of Fargo, captain of the color guard. It was last held in Detroit Lakes in 2005 and 2001.
"New candidates will come to Detroit Lakes from all over North Dakota and western Minnesota," he said. "Come on out and enjoy the parade -- it should be a nice Saturday here," he said.
