LAB boxers to host fight card
The Lakes Area Boxing club will be hosting its second Golden Gloves Boxing card Saturday, after a highly-successful outing last year. The card will once again be held at the Holiday Inn, with doors opening at 6 p.m. and fights starting at 7 p.m. with up to 15 bouts scheduled.
“We’re ready to throw down in our home town,” said LAB head trainer Chris Holt. “It will once again be a great show with some very good boxers.”
Potential fans should take note of the 6 p.m. time of the doors opening, because last year, seating was filled early and many people were turned away.
“We are hoping to have 15 fights to fill the card,” Holt said. “Holiday Inn once again offered to help us out and it worked out well last year. This is our big fundraiser for Lakes Area Boxing, so we appreciate all the help.”

Monies raised from Saturday’s card will go towards travel for LAB, which took part in six Golden Gloves Tournaments this past season, including Wadena, Grand Forks and Fargo.
Equipment is also purchased for the youth boxers through the fundraiser.
LAB had all new boxers this season, which totaled 11 certified boxers and six coaches. There will be seven fighting in Saturday’s event. The age range of the LAB boxers is from nine years old to 18.
“They have been pretty impressive working hard and learning good habits in the ring already,” Holt said.
Boxers will come from all around the state for the Holiday Day Inn boxing card. They will include Grand Forks, Canada, Anoka, Fargo, White Earth, Wadena, Brainerd and Leech Lake.
