Labyrinth viewing takes vintage spin
June 24 is the date set for this year's Vintage Garden Tea Party. Like the Royale's Garden Party Golden Jubilees, Lakes Homes is planning a grand tea party where everyone can show their best garden hat and tour the magical labyrinth garden.
The garden and tea party is located at 914 Lake Forest Circle (just off South Shore Drive) and offers a never-ending path of flowers, herbs, vegetables, fountains and bench to rest at. The tea party has a new vintage twist on the theme and décor. The garden will showcase an area of newly crafter seating, an outdoor photo booth and a handmade craft area with items for sale.
Lakes Homes prides themselves on their Horticulture program, with the help of residents planting as much as they can but to provide them the opportunity to enjoy their hard work in their own backyard. Each of the homes has a garden of different shapes and sizes filled with a variety of flowers, herbs and vegetables. The labyrinth has become the showcase of all the gardens.
The labyrinth is a therapeutic maze consisting of a three-foot wide path accessible for wheelchairs and walkers. While walking this path your senses begin to take hold of the surroundings.
The exciting fragrances of beautiful blooms, the sounds of chirping birds, trickling water falls and even a hint of soft musical chimes is the beginning of the path.
As you continue on the path you begin to feel the cool breeze as well as the warmth of the sun. As you enjoy the taste of sweet tea the sight of relaxation overtakes you as you sit on the bench viewing the extraordinary beauty.
Not only do you experience this, but the entertainment of the Musical Therapy Program is excited to present this year's feature, "Stone Soup."
For many of the Lakes Homes residents, this is their first time performing in a musical production, including costumes, props, dialogue, and of course, music. Everyone has been attending rehearsals weekly in preparation for the Garden Tea.
Not only has this been a fun experience for everyone involved, but from a Music Therapy aspect, they have been working on social skills, leisure skills, communication, memory recall, motor planning, turn taking and group cohesion, to name a few. Please come and support the budding actors and actresses at the first ever musical, "Stone Soup."
This elegant and vintage Garden Tea Party is planned for Sunday, June 24. The tea will feature soothing flavors of tea, tasty sandwiches, flavorful fruit and elegant pastries, all surrounded by colorful tables, sweet smelling flowers and inspiring scenery.
There will be two separate tea times -- 1:30 and 3 p.m. A donation of $25 per person and all proceeds go to towards Lakes Homes Music Therapy and Horticulture Therapy programs.
Tables are set for four people; larger groups can be accommodated. Reservations are needed and can be made by calling 218-847-5642.
