Lady Hornets double up NCE/U-H
After seeing their nine-point halftime lead disappear in the second half, the Frazee Lady Hornet girls’ basketball responded by scoring the last 11 points of the game as they defeated Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal 61-52 Monday night in Ulen.
The game was close throughout the first half until the Lady Hornets finished went on a 16-1 run late in the half which allowed them to take a 34-25 halftime lead.
Frazee (13-11 overall record) came and slow in the second half and NCE/UH (12-11 overall record) responded by chipping away at the lead and eventually took a three-point lead of their own.
The Titans still led 52-50 with around three minutes left when Katie Smith connected from close range to tie the score.
Following a steal by Smith, the Lady Hornets lone senior, Taylor Tappe came up with the biggest shot of the game as she nailed a three-pointer to give the lead back to Frazee.
The Lady Hornets put the game away by going 6-for-6 at the free throw line in the last two minutes.
“We struggled a little bit in the second half but I give a lot of credit to the girls for showing composure down the stretch to pull out the win,” head coach Dave Conzemius said. “Taylor showed her leadership with the big shot and all of the girls contributed in some way to this win.”
Taylor Tappe led the Lady Hornets with 19 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. Josi Tappe added 14 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals, Katie Smith had 10 points and five rebounds.
Kennady Barlund added nine points and five steals.
