Lady Hornets down Breck
The Frazee Lady Hornets used a strong rebounding effort to help them defeat the Breckenridge Cowgirls 61-47 Thursday night in Heart O'Lakes Conference girls' basketball action in Frazee.
Frazee (10-11 overall, 3-5 HOL) dominated Breckenridge (7-12 overall, 2-7 HOL) on the glass as the Lady Hornets out-rebounded the Cowgirls 42-21, and Frazee only allowed two offensive rebounds for the game.
"We have not been rebounding all that well lately and tonight we really did a good job of going after the ball," Frazee head coach Dave Conzemius said.
"We had almost as many offensive rebounds (15) as Breckenridge did total rebounds."
Breckenridge led 33-31 early in the second half when Katie McCorquodale nailed a three-pointer to spur the Lady Hornets on a 13-2 run to take control of the game.
From that point, the Cowgirls never got closer than seven points.
Alexis Tappe led Frazee with 22 points to go with eight rebounds, seven assists, six steals and two blocked shots. McCorquodale and McKinzie Tangen each added 10 points. Tangen also had a game-high 13 rebounds and added five assists.
"This was a nice team effort by the kids tonight, and this will be the kind of effort that we need as we approach the playoffs," Conzemius said.
Frazee is back in action on Thursday when they host Perham.
