Lady Hornets post big win over Pelican Rapids
Going into Friday night's Heart O'Lakes Conference basketball game with Pelican Rapids, the Frazee Lady Hornet basketball team had only three losses on the season.
One of those losses came back on Dec. 7, at Pelican Rapids by a score of 63-57.
Friday night in Frazee, the Lady Hornets were able to exact some revenge as they played a solid game from to start to finish and cruised to a 65-47 victory over the Vikings.
"The girls were really excited for this game tonight and they came out ready to play," Frazee head coach Dave Conzemius said. "We felt that we didn't play our best ball the first time we played them and they wanted to show people that we could beat Pelican Rapids. I think we made quite a statement with this win tonight."
Frazee (16-3 overall, 5-2 HOL) opened the game quickly, hitting their shots as they took an early 9-0 lead before Pelican Rapids (14-4 overall, 4-3 HOL) knew what hit them.
When Alexis Tappe hit a three-pointer right before the halftime buzzer, the lead had ballooned to 18 points at 34-16.
The Lady Hornets shot a blistering 58.3 percentage (14-for-24) in the first half.
"We really moved the ball well and got great shots at the basket which we were able to convert," Conzemius said. "As good as we played offensively, I was more impressed with our defensive effort as forced them out of their normal offense."
Any hopes the Vikings had for a comeback were dashed as Frazee came out in the second half with a 14-7 spurt to push the lead to 25 points.
Pelican Rapids did heat up from the three-point line in the second half, going 5-for-11, but they were never able to get closer than 16 points.
The Lady Hornets were hot from the three-point line too, as they were 10-for-21 for the game.
Overall, Frazee had its best shooting game of the season as they averaged a 54.5 percentage from the floor.
Tappe led the Lady Hornets with 23 points and 10 rebounds.
Ashley Bachmann had 12 points and five rebounds and Josi Tappe added 10 points and four rebounds.
Kennady Barlund, Taylor Tappe, and Heidi Seeger each contributed six points and Barlund added eight rebounds.
"Taylor Tappe did an exceptional job on their best player (Mackenzie Korf), making her work for her points," Conzemius added.
"As a team we also played great help defense and that is something we have been working on hard in practice."
