Lady Hornets pull off win in Henning
Detroit Lakes Minnesota 511 Washington Avenue 56501

The Frazee Lady Hornets traveled to Henning on Friday for the battle of the Hornets and Frazee came away with a hard-fought 72-68 victory.

“This was a fun game between two evenly matched teams,” Frazee head coach Dave Conzemius said. “We shot the ball very well as a team and had a lot of different girls contribute which was nice to see.”

After a slow start by each team, the action picked up and Frazee took a 33-28 lead at halftime behind 12 first half points from Taylor Tappe.

Frazee (2-2 overall record) scored the first six points of the second half to open up an 11-point, but Henning (4-2 overall) as they would the entire second half, answered with a run of their own to stay in the game.

Frazee finally put the game when Taylor Tappe hit a free throw late to make it a four-point game.

Taylor Tappe led Frazee with a career-high 20 points to go with 10 rebounds and four assists. Kennady Barlund had 12 points, 14 rebounds and six assists, Hailee Oswald had 10 points and Mandy Donahue and Josi Tappe each added nine points. Josi Tappe also had six assists.

Henning was led by Courtney Dague with 29 points.

“This was a good win for our team,” Conzemius said. “We still have a lot of things to work on defensively, but this is a step in the right direction.”

Frazee will now head to Walker Christmas Tournament to face some tough completion. Frazee will open with #2 ranked Mountain Iron-Buhl in the first round on Friday at 7:45 p.m. The other game will feature defending Tournament champion Parkers Prairie against No. 7-ranked Pequot Lakes. Parkers Prairie defeated Frazee last year in the championship game.

“This will be a tough tournament for us,” Conzemius added. “But our girls are looking forward to the challenge and this will be a chance for us to work on some things against some very talented teams.”
