Lake Park Area Choir raises $1,600 for pantry
Thanks to the Lake Park Area Community Choir -- and those who attended and gave -- the Becker County Food Pantry will get a boost in March.
Diane Volrath, Lake Park Area Community Choir treasurer, said each year the choir, which performed for the 21st year in 2006, holds the money it raised in December and then turns it over to the Food Pantry in March because it's Minnesota Food Share Month. That means the Food Pantry gets extra buying power that month.
This year, the choir raised $1,135 at its Christmas Cantata presented at four area churches -- Cormorant, Lake Park Lutheran, Audubon and Eksjo.
Volrath said each year the choir performs at the Cormorant and Lake Park churches, and then two other area churches are selected for performance sites.
More than $1,600 will be presented to the Becker County Food Pantry in March, with $1,135 from the Cantata and $500 from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
This year, the entire amount of funds raised is being donated because the choir used recycled music.
"No music or any costs, so everything we made goes to the Food Pantry," Volrath said.
