On Dec. 1, LPA students in grades third through sixth participated in the American Diabetes Association's "School Walk" for Diabetes. This is an educational school fund-raiser that supports programs aimed at curing and preventing diabetes, and improving the lives of all those affected by diabetes.

All students' grades three through six walked during their physical education class time. This year's top fund-raiser was third grader Alan Lubbers, who raised $321. Alan will receive a "thank you" medallion from the American Diabetes Association.

LPA elementary students worked with LPA's high school Family Career & Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) members Lydia Danielson, Haley Kapusta, and Emily Sunram. The girls did a skit about diabetes, participated in the school walk Dec. 1, and provided added incentives for the third through sixth grade students.

Mrs. Nagel's class raised the most money, and will receive a pizza party, and Alan Lubbers raised the most money as an individual, and will receive a Dairy Queen gift certificate.

LPA had another special guest, BOB, from BOB 95FM. The radio station employees brought coffee and assorted breads for the teachers to snack on, and BOB entertained the students, giving out autographs and tattoos. BOB even participated in walking with the students during the first physical education class.

There were 46 students this year that raised $2,584.75. The students did this by asking their community, neighbors, family, LPA staff, and local business' for pledges.

Thank you to these students for fund-raising: Maddie, Paul, Tabatha, Alexa, Karli, Cassidy, Will, Jenna, Elise, Molly, Ethan, Myla, Rileigh, Erin, Ben, Joseph, Sheena, Aubrey, Christina, Claudia, Amy, Maria, Matt, Rachel, Samantha, Jonathan, Jackson, Livia, Angelica, Kailee, Lindsey, Gavan, Stephanie, Ryan, Alan, Bailey, Kiera, Sanden, Morgan, Jacob, Grace, Keara, Mira, Samantha, Nicholas and Jack.
