Lake Park to host Parade of Trees this weekend
It is truly amazing how one little bingo parlor, dance hall and meeting room can be turned in to a "Winter Wonderland" but, it is in fact all of that and more.
Give a small but supportive community a mission and it is awesome to see the things they come up with.
This weekend we will see just that at the 4th annual "Parade of Trees" in Lake Park. The event will take place Nov. 26-28 in the local American Legion building. Several local businesses, organizations, families and individuals sponsor and decorate a holiday tree.
The trees are decorated with all sorts of character and style. Some are dripping with gold jewels and embellishments, while others are a display of children's handiwork of Q-tip stars and Popsicle sticks.
Trees are decorated in themes of everything from butterflies to Halloween. Anything goes. Businesses may base their theme on something significant to their business.
Each tree is recognized with a name -- "Merry Halloween," "It'll be a Blue Christmas Without You" or "Christmas Hy-Drains-Ya"!!!
Guests are able to vote for their favorite tree while they visit. Commemorative ornaments are sold. Guests are asked to give a freewill donation as they enter. Proceeds earned from the event are used for community projects.
The "Parade of Trees" is open Nov. 26 from 4 to 8 p.m., Nov. 27 from 1 to 8 p.m. and Nov. 28 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
So if you are seeking a quick way to get yourself in the Christmas spirit, come out for a tour of the Parade of Trees in Lake Park. Cider and Christmas goodies will be served.
