Lake Region Garden Club earns top points at horticulture show

The 11th District of the Minnesota State Horticulture Society held their 53rd annual show on Aug. 1 in the Lake Park-Audubon High School.

The Lake Park Garden Club hosted the event, and the theme was “Garden Prose and Poetry.”

There were 312 entries from 31 exhibitors from five clubs. The clubs involved include Ada, Lake Park, Lake Region (Detroit Lakes), Lady Slipper (Perham), Mahnomen and independent.

Highest points exhibitor was Karen Williams, Perham, with 124 points. Earning the highest points in annuals was Audrey Tovson, Detroit Lakes, with 43.

Highest points in perennials went to Janis Schram, Detroit Lakes, with 31. High points in vegetables went to JoAnn Kersting, Mahnomen, with 36.

The club with highest points was the Lake Region Garden Club, Detroit Lakes, with 527 points.

The judges were Linda Bellmore, Pat Westgard and Linda Larson from Fargo.

Show superintendents were Florence Culp, Audubon, Karen Williams, Perham, and Betty Smith, Detroit Lakes.

The winner of the cedar bird feeder was from Ada.
