Laker Softball - DL's U-14 team headed to state

The Detroit Lakes U-14 girls' softball team cruised through the Prairie Lakes League Tournament, right into a state playoffs berth with two dominating victories Tuesday in Hawley.

The Lakers started the tournament with a convincing 16-1 win over Norman County, as Emily Schiltz went 3-3 and Emily Seebold went 2-2 with three RBIs.

Chaz Butz took care of business on the mound for the comfortable win. The DL pitcher gave up only one hit in the championship game, while striking out seven in a 12-0 triumph over Ada-Borup.

Schiltz remained hot at the plate with a three-run homer, while Hailey Sonstegard was 2-3 with a double, triple and five RBIs.

Other DL batters producing were Maycen Kirchner ripping two hits and Emma Maguire going 2-3 with four RBIs.

The U-14 team will play in the State playoffs July 27-29, in Buffalo.
