The home plate on Crosby-Ironton softball field ended up with a Detroit Lakes stamp after the Lakers scored a combined 39 runs in wins of 17-1 and 22-0.

The over-matched Rangers were thumped with 10 runs in the first inning of the first game and 20 in the opening frame of the second game.

The Lakers were able to see some production from their younger players in both blowouts, as well.

“It was good to see some of the younger players in the game,” said DL head coach Phil Kirchner.

Carolyn Kinney went 3-3 in the first game, while each of Kyra Vagle, Hailey Sonstegard, Emily Seebold and Llecenia Burnside went for two hits in game one.

Vagle tossed a no-hit three innings in the game two win, while Emma Maguire won game two.

The Lakers fell to the talented Staples-Motley Cardinals at Snappy Park Friday by the scores of 10-5 and 5-2.

DL was in both games, but left seven runners stranded in game one and eight in game two.

“We didn’t have the clutch hits we needed,” Kirchner said. “Staples-Motley is a good team and there is little room for error against teams like that.”

Seebold added a solo homerun in the second game, while Maycen Kirchner laced her second homer of the season in game one.

Seebold also went 3-4 in the opening game.

Butz lost game one, while Maguire dropped the game in nightcap.

“We had some good pitching, but just a few too many walks,” Kirchner added.

The Lakers will play a crucial triangular in Thief River Falls Thursday against the Prowlers and East Grand Forks.

If the Lakers can secure two wins, they will be virtually ensured a top five seed. A top four seed will allow them a first-round home game and a bye through the first round of the Section 8-3A playoffs.
