Laker Sports Boosters to unveil new toy for Detroit Lakes athletic functions
The Detroit Lakes Sports Boosters Club will be unveiling a first of its kind Friday night before the Laker boys' basketball season opener.
Laker fans will have cool visual effects added to their enjoyment inside Ralph Anderson Gym starting this year -- in the form of a pair of 9x12 video monitors, which will provide video shots of the players and fans alike.
Although there will not be instant replay available, pre-game introduction videos of players will be one of the attractions of the video monitors.
"It's something I don't think any other Minnesota school has," said Sports Booster member Al Boehne. "We can also use them for Homecoming, but mostly we'll be using it for athletic games and maybe some live-game feed.
"We can have fun things like the 'circle me Bert' the Twins use for their broadcasts."
The evening will be kicked off with a turkey feed, sponsored by the DL Sports Boosters Club.
The new video monitors will also be used for the upcoming girls' basketball games and wrestling meets.
"It will be cool for wrestling meets, because we can have on the monitors who is wrestling and also a video of their opponents, if they send us video," Boehne said. "We'll also put stats on it, as well."
The Sports Boosters Club purchased the video monitors earlier this year, and they will be placed above the scoreboard on the south wall.
