The Lakers were on both sides of the blowout spectrum, blanking the Wolverines 7-0, while losing to the 2007 Section 8-2A runner-up Pirates 6-1.

It was the first meet for the Lakers after losing a couple of matches due to weather.

"Overall, I was pleased simply because of the overall effort and attitude," said DL head coach Jim Hinson.

"It was exceedingly windy, too, and it affected everybody's timing."

The lone win versus the Pirates came at the No. 2 doubles slot, where seniors Jon Chelmo and Jerry Walden outlasted senior Josh Mercil and sophomore Alex Prudhomme in a three-set thriller.

The DL duo opened with a 6-4 win, but dropped the second set 6-3. The third set went into a tiebreaker, where Chelmo and Walden scored the 7-6 win.

"It was the first time (Chelmo and Walden) played together, so that was a big win," Hinson added.

The rest of DL's losses came in straight sets.

The Lakers were on the other side of the win column against W-DC, sweeping the Wolverines, with only one match going past two sets.

Freshman Jesse Meyer won in three sets with a 7-4 tiebreaker over junior Cody Bain in third singles action.

Other DL singles victors included senior Ryan Borgeson (first singles), sophomore Jake Hartman (second) and senior Eric Roethel (fourth).

The Laker senior duo of Alex Nustad and Ben VanOffelen downed senior counterparts Tom Leyh and Caleb Bigham 6-3, 6-2 in first doubles action.

Other DL duo wins came from Chelmo and Walden at second doubles, while seniors Bryce Butzer and Brett Montplaisir also won in the three slot.

"The players made adjustments as per the wind (against W-DC)," Hinson said. "There was great leadership by the team tri-captains in Borgeson, Nustad and Roethel."

The Lakers will visit Bemidji Tuesday for a 4:30 p.m. start.
