Laker volleyball team loses heartbreaker to Staples-Motley
Despite winning the first two games, 25-21 and 25-19, the Detroit Lakes volleyball team was unable to claim victory on their home floor Tuesday, as the Lakers lost the next three games to visiting Staples-Motley, 20-25, 23-25 and 12-15.
"We played a really good game one," said Laker head coach Jim Wood. "Our passing was spot on, which allowed our hitters to really utilize the better resulting sets.
"Megan Ostlie stood out with 13 kills," he added. "She played very aggressively, both hitting and digging."
Unfortunately, that early momentum wouldn't last.
"Our girls let up just enough in game three to let Staples sneak away with one, and it changed our whole demeanor on the court," Wood said. "We couldn't quite get back to the level of play in games one and two."
Shay Nielsen finished right behind Ostlie in offense with 9 kills, and she also had a team-leading 11 blocks, while Ostlie also managed 2 blocks on the night.
Other stat leaders were Trisa Hutchinson with 8 kills and 9 blocks; and Marissa Bridgeman with 18 assists and 3 ace serves.
"We also honored our four seniors that night -- Brooklyn Thompson, Marissa Bridgeman, Megan Lindquist and Emma Wood," the DL coach said. "These are four fantastic kids that this program will truly miss next year."
