The final tune-ups are being made by the Detroit Lakes boys' swimming and diving team, as they prepare for the Section 3-1A meet.

The Lakers are coming off a 109-75 win in Morris Tuesday, as they were victorious in nine events.

DL head coach Rian Heimark mixed up his lineup versus the Stingrays, with favorable results.

Brandon Olson won the 200 freestyle with a 2:02.59 mark, while Jared Olson followed up with a win in the 200 individual medley at 2:34.95 and the 100 butterfly with a 1:12.73.

Jon Melgaard took a break from diving, as teammate Pat Rethwisch won the event with a 148.25 and Aaron Colby was second a 147.14.

In the 500 freestyle, Quillan Oak was victorious with a near sub-five minute time at 5:00.85, while Travis King was second at 5:47.07.

Oak was also first in the 100 breaststroke at 1:03.77.

Cody Johnson won the 100 backstroke, with both the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays winning their events.

The Lakers were second in the Park Rapids Invite Saturday, as illness affected the DL lineup.

Perham came out on top, outscoring DL by a 577-572.5 margin.

"We had number issues, with some of our guys being sick," Heimark said. "The times also were not there for the guys, with only nine personal best marks, compared to 35 the meet before."

Brandon Olson triumphed in both the 200 IM and 500 freestyle, while Melgaard won diving and Oak took the 100 breaststroke, with a new meet record.

The Lakers will be back in Park Rapids Friday for the Mid-State Conference meet.

"Our goal is to win the Mid-State," Heimark said.

Thus far, DL has 13 swimmers and divers qualified for the Section 3-1A meet.
