For three of the Detroit Lakes swimmers and divers, the Class 1A state meet held this past Monday through Wednesday was a good ice-breaker for potential future trips back to the event.

But for junior Kyley Foster, the state diving meet was second hat, as she narrowly missed out on making the podium and All-State honors by finishing ninth overall with a score of 283.60.

The top eight make All-State, as Hutchinson sophomore Rachel Haugen squeaked past Foster by six points for eighth place.

Laker junior Grace Livermore had a rollercoaster ride of a state meet in the 200-yard individual medley, after she originally finished one spot out of qualifying for the consolation finals, in 17th place.

But a disqualification of one of the top 15 finishers bumped Livermore into the consolation finals, where she took 16th overall with a time of 2:22.08.

The 200 IM was won by sophomore Lindsey Horejsi of Albert Lea with a time of 2:02.66.

Eighth grader Emma Disse had a solid state diving debut, qualifying for finals with a score of 199.00 and finishing 11th overall with a mark of 275.20.

Northfield junior Bailey DuPay was the diving champion with a score of 397.55.

Seventh grader Syd Gulon will be expecting some big things in future state meets, but her first one was as solid as can be and one which could be a solid launching pad for the next five years.

Gulon missed the consolation finals by one spot, taking 17th with a time of 5:36.39.

Mankato West junior Chantal Nack won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:08.08.

Visitation won the state team title with 300 points, while Hutchinson was fourth overall with a score of 131 points. The Tigers are coached by Detroit Lakes native Rory Fairbanks.
