Lakers’ Mallow takes medalist honors in Pre-Section meet
The Section 8-2A meet primer was held Wednesday at Longbow Golf Course in Walker, as the Detroit Lakes boys’ golf team look to be in firm control of their state destiny after handily winning the Pre-Section meet with a score of 293.
The closest to DL was Roseau with a 315, while the Lakers’ depth was once again on display.
Sophomore Ben Mallow carded a one-under par 71 for medalist honors, which is already the third DL lowman of the season.
Junior Michael Herzog remained consistent with an even par 72, while seniors Austin Rusness and Karter Smith each stroked a three-over par 75.
Other DL scores included sophomore Christian Hedstrom’s 78 and sophomore Tanner Schnathorst’s 83. Sam Goral played as an extra and finished with a 78.
The Lakers will be in action again as they defend their 13-time Mid-State Conference title Monday at the Vintage Golf Course in Staples starting at 10 a.m.
