Lakers play to fifth place
Something new joined the Detroit Lakes girls' golf team during their meet at The Vintage in Staples Saturday -- sun and warm temperatures.
It was a welcomed site for the Lakers, who finished fifth as a team against some top-notch competition.
Along with the nice weather came a little switch-up in the DL lineup, as coach Cali Harrier moved some of the girls around in the lineup.
It worked well, as eighth grader Trisa Hutchinson finished 10th overall with an 83, while sophomore Courtney Hedstrom shot an 86 and eighth grader Matty Tschider an 87.
Eighth grader Natalie Roth carded a 99 to round out DL's scoring, while seventh grader Sydney Busker shot a 101 and Ashley Friesen a 104.
"Courtney (Hedstrom) had her putting game going with only 31 putts on the day," Harrier said. "Trisa had only 33 putts on the day, along with two birdies on par five holes, which is nice."
The Lakers saw some big schools in the meet, along with some good scores.
Alexandria's Maggie Leland was the medalist with a one-over par 73, while the Cardinals won the meet with a 327 score. DL finished with a 355.
"The girls saw some good competition shooting in the 70's and it showed them that they can shoot there, too," Harrier included.
The Lakers will play at Longbow Golf Course in Walker -- the site for the Section 8-2A meet -- Friday, starting at 12:30 p.m. and will be at Wildflower -- the course for the Sub-Section meet -- Saturday at 10 a.m.
