The competition in-house for the Detroit Lakes boys' golf team has been intense, and it's starting to show through during competitive meets.

A split squad was sent to the two-day Grand Rapids meet, as a host of young Lakers finished eighth overall out of 22 teams (132 players) with a 318-313 -- 631.

"They did a great job," said DL head coach Bob Gorden. "We had a lot of scores in the 70's and there has been great competition for the top six spots."

Michael Herzog had the one-day team low of a two-over par 74 Saturday, while shooting an 82 Friday for a Laker low of 156, which was tied for 17th overall.

Karter Smith was tied for 23rd with his 78-79 -- 157, while Connor Hedstrom fired a 161 for 38th.

Rounding out DL's scores were Austin Rusness' 166 (76 Friday), Nate Bauman shooting a 166 and Tyler Baukol a 170.

Moorhead won the team title with a 297-301 for a final 598, while International Falls and Virginia following in second with a 618.

Glenn Walls of International Falls fired a two-day score of 144, highlighted by a four-under-par 68 Friday.
